WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

Who is the course aimed at

The course is a beginner to intermediate-level qualification suitable for industry professionals, enthusiasts and consumers wishing to expand their wine knowledge.

Completion of WSET Level 1 is not required.

What the course covers

Students will gain knowledge of the following eight principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce: Chardonnay; Pinot Grigio/Gris; Sauvignon Blanc; Riesling; Cabernet Sauvignon; Merlot; Pinot Noir; and Syrah/Shiraz.

Through a combination of tasting and theory, students will explore how grape varieties and winemaking processes influence key styles of still, sparkling, sweet and fortified wines, the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe wines with confidence, using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT).

Students will learn key labelling terms used to indicate origin, style and quality, how to store and serve wine and the principles of food and wine matching.

Course Delivery

16 hours of class time (in person or online) plus a recommended 11 hours of personal study and revision. There is a one hour, 50 multiple-choice question exam at the conclusion of the course.
