Who is the course aimed at
This qualification is suitable for industry professionals and enthusiasts seeking to explore more thoroughly the world of wines and obtain a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. It is recommended that students hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge.
What the course covers
Students study the key factors in the production of wine: the influence of location and climate, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling; and how these factors affect the key characteristics of the main still wines, sparkling wines and fortified wines of the world.
Through a combination of tasting and application of theory, students will
learn how to describe and evaluate wine style, quality and characteristics using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT).
Course delivery
There are two ways to study for the Level 3 qualification;
– Classroom: students attend five days of in-person classroom sessions
– Online : students study in their own time
Both require personal study time in addition to the classroom/online sessions.
There is a 2.5 hour exam comprising 50 multiple-choice questions, 4 written short answer questions and a blind tasting of two wines.
